Milton Bradley - A Brief History
Initially taking out a permit over 40 years ago,
Milton soon took out a training license in both
codes ( flat and NH racing) at his home location of
Mead Farm in Sedbury, Gloustershire. Close to
Chepstow and is often quoted as a Welsh trainer, but
strictly speaking the stables are on the border of
England and Wales (on the English side).
Over
the years Milton has trained and raced many very
special horses including (in no particular order),
Octroi who won 24 P2P races in the late 60's/early
70's, the 70's and 80's included Royal Boxer who was
4th in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham, Artic John
who won 10 hurdle races, Artic Rascal winning 7 flat
races. Many other notable multiple winners in both
codes such as Ascot Blue, Persian Dynasty, Music
City, Offas Mead, Mighty Marine (who made the top
100 training feats of all time in the Racing Post by
winning multiple NH races in 10 days), and
equine superstars Yangsee Kiang and Grey Dolphin.
In the
90's Milton trained some of the memorablerace horses
including Sooty Tern winner of 20 races, Juwwi the
winner of 17 races including a listed success at
York, Brevity a winner 9 times and placed at a
rating of 100+ (from a rating of 49 in his early
career!), Nineacres the wonderful handicapper who
won 14 individual races and was also placed 40 times
in his racing career and not forgetting Maggots
Green who won 10 chases often ridden by Richard
Johnson as a young apprentice.
Richard
Johnson is one of many famous jockeys to ride for
Milton (Richard rode his 1st flat, hurdles and chase
winners for Milton), other notable jockeys that have
helped shape a riding career under Milton include
Paul Fitzsimons, Ryan Moore and Ernie Johnson (who
later rode a Derby winner).
Today's
top jockeys regularly ride for Milton and he
is always developing stable apprentices including
Milton's grandson Chris Davies (flat and NH) and two
of his granddaughters Hayley Davies and Sarah
Bradley (two keen amateur riders).
In the
last few years Milton has also enjoyed notable
success especially over sprint distances, with
horses such as globe trotting The Tatling who has
raced in Ireland, France and Hong Kong, plus
multiple winners of valuable races including
Corridor Creeper, Whistler, Cape Royal, Salviati,
Currency, High Ridge and many more in a prize money
haul of over £2 Million in the last 5 years...
